The Association of the German Spice Industry (FGI) is composed of 77 spice firms involved in the processing, marketing, distribution and trading of herbs, spices and seasoning mixes. The turnover of the FGI members ranges from 1 to more than 100 M. € per year, although most of them have a turnover of less than 50 M. € per year. FGI is formed of 3 key areas (General Assembly, Technical Committee and Secretariat), and the objectives of the association are to promote & protect the interests of its members and to ensure they are fully aware of all current & future legislation. FGI is member of the Research Association of the German Food Industry (FEI), which is a non-profit, registered association supporting research projects in all fields of food science, food technology and nutritional science in Germany. FGI has supported 6 research projects organised via the FEI during the last 5 years. Hence it is used to circulate and communicate the results of scientific research to the spice industry.

Currently, FGI is participating in the project Influence of fusible coating materials on the properties of coated powder raw materials of food industry, carried out as R&D leader by the Technical University of Munich (TUM).
